How to Spring Clean like a Minimalist: Kitchen Edition

What’s this? A bonus Minimalist Mini? Why yes, it is. Read the article below, or hit the play button to listen to the bonus episode.

Today, we’re talking about Spring Cleaning. Anyone can spring clean whether they call themselves a minimalist or not. But spring cleaning with a minimalist touch should feel and look different during and after the process.

I started with my kitchen and was able to get rid of several things, rearrange some items for better access, and I also combined a couple of plants in my window garden for more appeal.

By keeping four questions in mind, I was able to easily stay on track and get the project done in an hour and a half. Not too bad for a squeaky-spring-clean kitchen.

If an object is tucked out of reach for a long period of time, do you really still need to keep it?

Are there items — healthy food items in particular — that are tucked way back that should have a better home up closer?

Is there a better way to organize your items?

How do you want to feel when you walk in your kitchen?

If you ask yourself these questions as you work, not only are you getting rid of expired foods, wiping down cupboards, and vacuuming out silverware drawers, but you’ll be setting yourself up for a more inviting kitchen with tools that are useful and valuable to you. And enjoying your kitchen can be rewarding in so many ways.

Self-Care for Men and Women: Podcast Episode 13

Let’s get real, here. When I think of self-care articles I’ve read in the past, most of them talk about taking time for a bubble bath or getting a massage. These work great for some, but Personally, I’m always left wanting after this type of self-care. On top of that, I’ve never heard many people talk about self-care for men, but they need it, too. We all need to take a moment out of our day or week to fill our needs. And we should be figuring out and participating in activities that are truly fulfilling and adding value to our lives.

My Anthology is on Sale!

The paperback version of IT CALLS ME: AN ANTHOLOGY is 26% off right now. I have no idea how long this will last, so if you’re interested, grab it while you can. Writing these short stories and poetry was such an enjoyable experience and — in many ways — therapeutic to my soul. Enjoy!

FROM THE BACK COVER:

Water destroys and revives.

Waves shred ears like nails on a chalkboard, soothe troubled souls like a true apothecary. Water is a joyful friend. A ghost wearing rouge. A toxin, enrobed in gray. Ill-begotten saloons lurk near its edges while quaint riverwalks with ice cream parlors are much-adored sites. Heart-shaped shells fill up baskets amidst grassy trinkets, and the beauty of untouched sand needs to be both preserved and enjoyed. Whether ocean, river, or rain, in this breathtaking anthology, Coughran poignantly shows us the beastly, saving nature of water-with a Percy Bysshe Shelley-like ear and range.

How to be a Minimalist Podcast: Episode 12. How to Create a Morning and Nightly Routine

Creating a morning and nightly routine are an essential part of maintaining your minimalist ideal. But they don’t have to be super time-consuming and rigid. Getting a few things done at night and again in the morning can have you ready to sleep well and also conquer your day. On top of that, you’ll much more easily be able to keep your home peaceful and minimalist.

How to be a Minimalist Podcast Episode 11. Rejecting Conformity

In this episode, my husband is back and we’re talking all about the steps we’ve taken to create the reality we want to live. It’s easy to give in to the pressures of living conventionally, but that hasn’t brought us happiness or satisfaction. From practicing minimalism and simple living to swapping our sticks and bricks home for a home on wheels, we’ve decided we’re going to make choices we think will bring us the best possible life.

Good Omens by Gaiman and Pratchett (affiliate link — no cost to you, but thank you for your support!) was one of the best books I’ve read in a while. Full of witty humor, I loved the characters, the premise of the apocalypse is always interesting, and the idea of an angel that doesn’t want to be 100% good and a demon that doesn’t want to be 100% bad is both entertaining and thought-provoking.
